Thanks to Mary Brannan for this link about the Texas execution of a man who, some believe, was wrongly convicted of a crime he did not commit.
In a sign of just how polarized the country has become over President Obama's young administration, controversy erupted over whether school children should be forced to watch his Back to School address.
Thanks to Jeffrey Terebessy for this link.
Frederique Bennett sent in this link about an amazing adventure. I've done some extreme things, but this scares even me!
Note: You may be asked to register at the New York Times website to view this article. This is free and safe; however, because it represents a small hassle, I don't recommend choosing articles from the NYT if you can help it.
This is an interesting story sent in by Frederique Bennett about a fascinating archeological discovery in London.
Frederique Bennett has been working overtime finding links for us this week, which is appropriate considering the occasion.
Jeffrey Terebessy submitted this link along with a comment:
"This could affect you as a professor and us the pupils in addition to the workforce with the student loan industry. It had a direct link to all of those attending or teaching in college."
Alcoholism and alcohol abuse are sad realities in families across the spectrum. Thanks to Frederique Bennett for another thought-provoking link.
Lines like the one above or "Jesus on the Main Line" always come to mind when I think of truckers. I can't say why; it's just an association I've had for decades. This CNN.com story submitted by Alisa Pollock does nothing to get those songs out of my head.
Jacquelyn Cutright writes, "I was so overwhelmed by the story of Trial by Fire (See 'Innocent Man?' 9/15/2009) that I couldn't help but read this story of a convicted woman in Connecticut."
Thank you, Jacquelyn, for submitting another highly relevent link.
My favorite local columnist is Mark Woods. His columns appear in The Florida Times-Union, and I always enjoy what he has to say, so it was with great interest that I turned the pages yesterday to read "Timucuan Preserve deserves to get national recognition."
Apparently, Mark is not the only one thinking about this topic. Mary Brannan sent in this editorial from The Christian Science Monitor.
"I'm sure we all agree that we ought to love one another, and I know there are people in the world who do not love their fellow human beings — and I hate people like that!" - Tom Leher, 1965
Def Jam founder and blogger Russell Simmons is calling for action to get rid of online hate groups.
Thanks to Mary Brannan for the link.
Not to draw out this death row theme any longer than necessary, Frederique Bennett submitted one more link to update the case of Cameron Todd Willingham.
Thanks to Angella Clarke for this inspiring story of a football player who is working to move his life in a new direction.
Well, no one knows yet, but Tobi Bridgeman is getting up to speed with this article from the New York Times on the Large Hadron Collider.
I'm not sure why Frederique Bennett decided to make me feel the hopelessness of my profession, but here we are.
